Glock 43 & Single Stack 9mm Reviews

7/6/2015

We have put our Glock 43 through the paces now and have been carrying it regularly since April. Right to the point - we LOVE it! We have shot, handled and carried quite a few subcompact 9mm pistols over the years and this is THE gun for us. The last sub 9 Jim carried regular was a S&W Shield. At the time, it provided the most ergonomic package that was very shootable. It had the best trigger of any subcompact by far. However, it was still an M&P trigger. The other gripe we had was the inability to keep the off-hand thumb on the frame when shooting rapidly. The Shield is a good compromise between shoot ability and concealability. All in all though, we were pleased with it. We strongly prefer the model with out the manual safety.
As a note, Jim has very large hands. As such, your mileage may vary...
The Glock 43 is a treat to shoot. It recovers from recoil quickly and is the most accurate pocket 9 available. We shot 1.7" groups after break in from 25 yards. It points naturally and has not experienced one malfunction in over 700 rounds. Jim carry it in a Blackhawk appendix holster. Very comfortable and does't make your shorts fall down! It conceals well under a light T shirt. We did upgrade the sights to Amerglo CAP night sights. Good ergonimics and the trigger has a nice short reset like its big brothers.
Other Pocket 9 mm guns to consider:
Kahr CM9: very shootable but has a VERY long trigger pull.
Ruger LC9s Pro: A big improvement on the trigger from the previous model. Performance is average.
Sig Sauer P290RS: great ergonomics with a pretty crappy trigger.
Springfield XDs 3.3: Harder to conceal than most. Too many parts for a daily carry. Several Failure to Fire occurrences and Failure to Feed 2x. Heavy mushy trigger.
Taurus 709 Slim: Surprisingly not bad! No malfunctions and pretty accurate. Good ergonomics.
Walther PPS: All round solid performer.

Ones to skip:
Beretta Nano BU9: too many failures to extract to stake our lives on
Kel-Tec PF9: a very unpleasant shooter. Many FTE as well as the lug breaking off the barrel!
